Entrecard’s New Forum Regime – Going Overboard

The Entrecard regime is getting stricter and stricter. I was all for this paid ad system when the announcement was first made and heck, I’m still for it – if it was planned out and implemented in a proper and organized fashion. Since that announcement all we’ve had is pretty much screwups and Entrecard members, instead of holding their tongues like the admins apparently think they should, spoke out about the failures that took place during implementation (and yes, they were nothing more than failures).

Now, the Entrecard forums have been completely turned upside down and rearranged. Everyone who does not follow an extremely strict set of criteria (including having to have bought 400 ads) is out of the forums – tough luck. The Entrecard moderators are putting their foot down with comments like:

This thread is not open for discussion.
If you cant figure it out yourself, then ask. Otherwise, there is no need for input.
Members who are no longer welcome at the forums (other than one ’support’ forum and the ‘announcements’ forum…gee…seems like most of us won’t be able to talk about our opinions in the forums without being considered “off topic” and getting deleted anymore) cannot even see their messages or delete them. One member put in a ticket requesting that her forum posts be deleted as she is no longer allowed into the core of the forum. Her request was erased and her posts apparently remained up. I sure hope Entrecard remembers that it does not own our content, no matter how much it’s trying to own our blogs.

Someone suggested a great idea to make the rest of the forum read only for people who do not meet the requirements, even if they can’t post. This would still give us some sort of a feeling of at least being included and will stop people from “bashing” Entrecard (which is the mods’ reason for doing all this in the first place). This suggestion, however, received no response. Perhaps because it wasn’t brought up by one of the few elite.

Way to welcome new members with this new forum system, guys. Great idea. I’m starting to think Turnip (an EC basher) isn’t so bad after all, what with stricter and stricter regimes and rules and exclusions coming in for members who were loyal and deeply ingrained in the community before Entrecard’s scrweups started to pile up one after the other.

Turnip learnt the hard way, but more quickly than many of us. It’s like a concentration camp over there in EC land these days.

  2. tech Vixen says:

A., ‘concentration camp’ is exactly what I was thinking, though I was hesitant about saying it.

I was pissed off honestly when i heard these new measures. A reason for joining the forum must be included? Why the hell for? What if I came up with some politically correct reason then went on to bash Entrecard? It serves no purpose whatsoever!

400 ads??? Andy T. says that it is part of what we are supposed to be doing as a member of EC, but i beg to differ. I hardly buy ads although I drop religiously, because I feel that the ads are inefficient in gathering traffic (since it is up for only one day) based on the cost of points put in. Does that mean i’m not a ‘privileged’ user for the EC forums?

The administrators are shutting their ears off.

  4. sloane says:

im with you on this. as a newbie and a regular on the forums, im shocked i was banned from using it until i get 400 ads. they even have the ‘introductions’ under lock and key.

The funny thing, most people who were probably bashing entrecard wernt even new.

oh, is this andy guy really only 19 yrs old?

  5. Staci says:

I’ve been a member of EC for months, and I still haven’t bought that many ads, only because I buy ads on popular blogs. I don’t buy space on every 2 ec blog that comes along. If I did, all my ads would run on the same day.

I also read the forums daily because it was the only way I learned anything useful about EC, not just gossip, but also tips on how to use EC and news as to what’s happening (I never got the paid ad email, for instance). Now I’m shut out. What makes me mad is I’ve been following the company line and accept the vast majority of the paid ads, and I’m still shut out. Grrr!

Thanks for the comments, guys, and I’m glad so many others agree. Maybe the mods will see the light when they realize just how many people they’re alienating.

  7. Ian says:

A, and Tech Vixen, concentration camp is a good metaphor for the EC forums these days. I’ve asked to be approved to post there, but only so I can post some smartarse comment, I had been thinking along the lines of “Sieg Hiel”. No doubt after that I will be banned, but who really cares now.

  8. tech Vixen says:

Thanks for commenting, Ian. Part of me thinks Graham is doing all this on purpose – that he gets off on screwing people around somehow.

  9. twj986 says:

I dont see how that helps him..

  10. tech Vixen says:

Some sort of twisted pleasure off of having drama evolving around him? Especially if what Turnip posted recently about Graham’s “offer” to Turnip is true.

  11. John says:

Hi, I’m the guy who requested my posts to be deleted :-) It doesn’t seem right that I’m not even allowed read access to my own posts. I checked the T&C and Entrecard don’t own any rights to them.

No doubt they’ll change the T&C and claim it was in there all along. It wouldn’t be the first time, someone once showed me a before and after of one of the policies which they changed after the event to justify something.

My posts still haven’t been removed by the way. It seems like Graham and Andy are both on holiday or something, I haven’t seen them around. My request has been deleted 3 or 4 times.

The funny thing is, I’ve been an Entrecard member for over a year and haven’t been overly critical until being denied access to the forums. I assume I’ll be denied the opportunity to cash out too, I signed up on day one and still haven’t been approved. Entrecard sure knows how to alienate their loyal users. :-(

  12. twj986 says:

What was the offer to Turnip?

  13. tech Vixen says:

John, I’d definitely take a screenshot of the current T&C in case they do change it.

Twj, Turnip posts an e-mail that Graham sent him when they originally had their falling out here. There’s really no proof that it actually happened, but at this point I wouldn’t put it past Graham.

  14. twj986 says:

omg… i thought ill just read some raving post ranting abt ECs… But his post is logical well thought up, with evidence not only in the posts, but in the comments. This could very well be genuine..
